The 89th annual Fairfax Basketball Tournament is underway. Due to COVID-19 concerns, changes have been made and guidelines put into place. Boys will play Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and girls will play Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Spectators will be limited to four per athlete. Cheerleaders will only cheer on Friday and Saturday nights. In addition, the gym will be cleared between the 2nd and 3rd games of the night. The games will be live streamed on the Facebook “East Atchison” page for those unable to attend.

In the first night of the tournament (all boys’ games), St. Joseph Christian defeated North Nodaway 87-20, Rock Port defeated Nodaway-Holt 69-42, East Atchison defeated West Nodaway 67-57, and Falls City defeated South Holt 56-34. The boys’ championship game will be Friday, January 15, and the girls’ championship game will be Saturday, January 16.

Gena Mitchell is pictured holding a Fairfax Invitational t-shirt being sold by the Fairfax National Honor Society. Tickets are also being sold for a chance to win a Chiefs package (Chiefs gear and multiple gift cards, valued at over $800). Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any of the junior/senior parents. The drawing will be held between basketball games on Senior Night, February 18 (you do not need to be present to win). All proceeds from the Chiefs raffle will go to the Fairfax After Prom, to provide a safe and fun night for students.
