January 18, 1946
• Raymond McNeil began his duties Monday morning as postal clerk at the local post office. Raymond was discharged from the Navy last fall after serving since early in the war. Much of his service was overseas.
• William A. King has sold his 30 1/2 acres of land in the Irish Grove community to Dick Slemp of Rock Port and has purchased residence property in Rock Port. He and his son, Ernest, recently discharged from the service, expect to move to Rock Port about the first of February. Ernest has employment there. Ivan Thompson and Mrs. Bertha Crockett have sold 27 acres of land located west of Mill Creek to Dennis Mitchell. The land joins land Mr. Mitchell owns west of Mill Creek. Will Greever, Jr. has sold 80 acres of land to Zenith Davis. The tract adjoins the Davis farm on the west and makes his farm now contain approximately 200 acres.
• A new business opened in Fairfax this week under the firm name of the Fairfax Garage and Welding Shop. George Mason and Bud Johnson, the owners, come to Fairfax from Burlington, Iowa, and the men and their families are looking for residences in Fairfax.
January 21, 1971
• Mr. and Mrs. Olin Fletcher of Fairfax caught some large red snappers while fishing the Atlantic Ocean aboard a boat from Port Orange, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher were the houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Van Pelt of Sanford, Florida.
• Production of the 1971 issue of The Guardian, Fairfax High School’s yearbook, recently began. Annual staff members include: editor-in-chief – Fred Wennihan; assistant – Christie Brindle; business manager – Kay Kent; assistant – Dan Johnson; circulation manager – Jay Smith; assistant – Debbie Ray; classes – Jeanie Hawkins; assistant – Joan Jones; academics – Richard Oswald; assistant – Janet Volker; activities – Bridget VanGundy; assistant – Jennifer Kottman; co-sports – O.C. Swackhamer and Anita Demott; assistants, John Ball and Paula O’Riley; staff photographer – Melodee White; assistant – Trudy Smith; publicity – Dewayne Koenig; assistant – Roxanne Shaw; and Booster pages – chairman Galen Wake, Steve Irvine, and Richard Bradfield.

• The Tarkio Indians defeated the Fairfax Bulldogs and Bishop LeBlond defeated the Tarkio girls for the championships of the Fairfax Basketball Tournament.
• It was a day of bumps and bruises as well as a day of failures and accomplishments. Twenty FFA and FHA members hit the slopes of Mt. Crescent December 28. Falling flat on their faces is what most of the 20 students experienced. The ski trip is an annual event that the organizations take to relax and have fun. Ironically, most students did not get to relax.
