The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the food stamp program, is now called SNAP Outreach.

Gina Ripley, University of Missouri Extension Nutrition Program Associate with the Family Nutrition Education Program (FNEP), says, “Our program’s goal is to help Missourians make behavior changes to achieve lifelong health and fitness. Another part of our program is to assist Missourians with enrollment.”

The SNAP office in Atchison County is currently closed to the public due to the pandemic. This program gives low-income Missourians another place to reach out for help. When meeting with clients in need of SNAP benefits, Ripley assists them through the application process simply by asking them questions over the phone. The application is kept strictly confidential and submitted immediately online for processing.
