The Northwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District has grant funds available from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Management Program to distribute to both public and private entities throughout Atchison, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth Counties.
These grant funds are intended to reduce the amount of waste entering the local waste stream and facilitate recycling. Some examples of projects include the purchase of recycling bins, trailers, outdoor classrooms, rubberized surfaces, recycling infrastructure and expansion.
Individuals or entities interested in applying for funds for a waste reduction or recycling project may contact Robin Davidson at 660-582-5121 ext. 4, or e-mail robin@nwmorcog.org. The application is posted online at http://www.nwmorcog.org.
Applications must be received by Thursday, April 1, 2021, by 3:00 p.m. at the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, 114 W. Third St., Maryville, MO 64468.
DISTRICT UPDATE
The gathering of information for the assessment inventory is in progress. This information will be used to ascertain the current recycling infrastructure present in our region and will serve as a guide in the development of local recycling opportunities.
The Solid Waste Plan Implementation Education Events is a project that will offer educational events regarding city-wide recycling. The events will be held in each of the following school parking lots. Information will be posted on the Regional Council website at www.nwmorcog.org and its Facebook page. The events scheduled are: March 12 – Burlington Junction, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and Tarkio, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; March 17 – Grant City, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and Ravenwood, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; March 25 – Oregon, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and Graham, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
