• More like the middle of May than mid-February has been the weather the past seven days here. The low and high readings, as recorded by the U.S. Airways and Communication station, both occurred on last Friday when it was 8.7 degrees at 1:27 a.m. and 61.2 degrees at 4:30 p.m.
• Ambrose “The Magician” will give his novel show at David Rankin Hall Friday evening, March 1. Ambrose “The Magician” is an unusually clever performer and presents odd mysteries which he has secured from all over the world. “Chinese Rice and Water Mystery,” “The Steel Rings of Chee Woo,” and “The Vanishing Cage and Canary” are just a few of the bewildering acts to be performed. Super-mental feats, a ventriloquist act, and escaping out of boxes, straight jackets, etc. will also be performed.
• Robert Graf has purchased the South Tenth Street house and four-acre tract belonging to Mrs. Foster White and will build a garage at that location. Mr. and Mrs. Vercil Hicks have been occupying the residence here.
• Odie Lane has bought the Linwood Hotel business from Mrs. W.O. Morgan and becomes the new agent for the Burlington bus in Tarkio. Mr. Lane, a former resident, has recently been honorably discharged from Navy service.

• Everett Campbell designed and built a combination wren house and bird feeder for the enjoyment of the residents of Northview Manor. It has a wren house on each end and feeding stations along the length.
• Possibly going unnoticed by one generation is the attention Tarkio is receiving from another, principly the rock music generation. An album entitled “Tarkio” has recently been released by two male vocalists, Brewer and Shipley. The album features such songs as “Tarkio Road,” “Song from the Platte River,” “Fifty States of Freedom,” and “One Toke Over The Line,” to name a few. Brewer and Shipley appeared at the Mule Barn Theatre in 1969. The album cover has decorative three-inch open letters spelling “Tarkio” with “Brewer and Shipley” in smaller ones beneath it and a picture of the two. It sells for $4.98 and is available in a cassette.
• Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vette, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Levings, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boatman were presented with awards for their efforts connected with the Balanced Farming Program in Atchison County at the association’s annual banquet held last Tuesday at the Walnut Inn.

• Monica Martin was crowned Tarkio High School Basketball Homecoming Queen and Jason Peregrine was crowned king at the game Friday night, February 16.
• The Tarkio R-I Board of Education voted in its regular meeting for February to keep the school’s wrestling program intact. Discussion had been held at previous meetings concerning dwindling numbers in the program. Five of the seven current wrestlers will graduate this year and there was concern as to how many younger students would wrestle once they enter high school. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to keep the program.
