Richard Daniel Vance, the son of Carl Wilson and Gladys (Kempel) Vance, was born July 13, 1936, in Tarkio, Missouri. Richard attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, and later received his GED. In January of 1954, Richard entered the United States Army where he served his country for three years, receiving his honorable discharge in January of 1957.

On February 12, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Rita Garst at the United Methodist Church, Rock Port, Missouri. They became the parents of three sons, Rodney, Bobby, and Dickie. They made their home in the Nodaway County area before returning to Tarkio.

Richard worked numerous manual labor jobs including construction and roofing. He drove a truck before starting his own trucking company in 1979. Richard drove for 13 years, retiring in 1983.

Richard coached youth boys’ baseball, initiated Little Britches Rodeo, Maryville, Missouri, and was a former member of Rolla Dicks American Legion Post #315, Burlington Junction, Missouri. He loved to fish and hunt. Richard passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at his home in Tarkio at the age of 84.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include wife, Rita Vance, Tarkio; children, Rodney Vance, Montana, Bobby Vance, Tarkio, and Dickie Vance, Tarkio; and granddaughters, Laney and Haley Vance.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Tarkio Community Building, Tarkio. Memorials may be directed to the Richard Vance Memorial Fund.
