April 5, 1946

• A fire alarm was sounded shortly after eleven o’clock Tuesday night sending the fire department to the Arch Hackl home in the Myrtle Greer property on South Main Street. Apparently caused by a faulty electrical connection or plug, a curtain was set afire and destroyed, but the blaze was put out with small damage.

• During last Friday afternoon’s vivid electrical storm, Mrs. Keith Boettner was so severely shocked by one of those flashes of electricity that she was practically unconscious for a time. The flash put the Boettner furnace out of commission.

• Henry Stapel and Charlie Cox, who have about completed a neat little residence in the southwest part of town in what they call Fairview Addition, have added another house to that section of town by bringing in from the country a small building. It has been placed on its foundation and is being remodeled into a comfortable little house.

• Mr. and Mrs. Wm. W. Brown of Washington, D.C., are here for a visit at the home of Mrs. Henry Hartman, near Tarkio. Mr. Brown was discharged from the army on March 21st, having served 27 months in the India-Burma theatre of operations. During his service in the army, his wife continued her employment in Washington, where Mr. Brown will return to take up his work with the agriculture department.

April 8, 1971

• Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Lingerfelt have purchased the drive-in cafe on Hwy. 136. They will feature broasted chicken and pizzas as well as short orders. Beginning the first of May they will have a car-hop service. The cafe will be known as the Swing ’N.

• The Methodist Church has purchased the Charley R. Slemp property at 308 South Nebraska for $4,100 and also the property belonging to Robert Dale Taylor adjoining it for $4,250. Future plans are to remove the houses and use the area for a parking lot.

• Rock Port’s new bowling lanes will be in operation by August 1. Called “The Blue Jay Bowl” it will contain eight lanes for the bowlers plus a snack bar, a snooker table and a pool table. The vacant lot south of Dr. Gallup’s office has been purchased by a corporation comprised of Duane Fentiman and Dr. Jack Scamman and will start construction some time next week.

• Firemen were called to the farm of Mrs. Robert Amthor north of Rock Port April 7 at 2:05 p.m. Apparently the fire started in some loose hay which had been dropped in the process of unloading a truckload in the barn. When firemen arrived, manure in the barn lot was on fire just a few feet from the barn. Firemen used about 500 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze and little damage was done.

April 4, 1996

• The Rock Port Chamber of Commerce welcomes a new business on Main Street. The Logo is owned and operated by Lori Parshall. She will be offering custom embroidery and silk screening. In addition, she will also have sports trading cards.

• Houses that were to be torn down and salvaged by the city were purchased by Inter-Lutheran Disaster Response and moved. They are getting settled in and the public will be informed as to how the houses will be offered for sale.
