I’m reminiscing about the 32 Mother’s Days from my past. What particular gifts stand out most vividly in my mind? Sparkling necklaces? A soft cashmere scarf? A full length leather coat with a soft fur collar? A handmade burgundy silk dress made-to-order while stationed in Japan? Designer perfume? A silk scarf? They were all lovely and thoughtful gifts.
But the gifts I remember and treasure the most were from my daughter. They weren’t expensive or extravagant. In fact, they were free and frequent. And given with pure unconditional love. The gifts: her arms around my neck hugging me.
There is a wise saying: “The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children.”
Thirty-three years of motherhood has gracefully taught me that that heartfelt saying is indeed true. Human touch is valuable, irreplaceable, and essential. It soothes, comforts, and reassures. Search your memory. Discover your precious jewels moments. Pray they never cease. Thank you, Shannon!
Love, Mom
