Athletes compete at sectional track meet

The Class 1 Section 4 Track Meet was held May 15, 2021, at Higginsville, Missouri. East Atchison and Rock Port athletes had a good showing, with a number of events qualifying for the Missouri State Track Meet. The top four finishes go on to the state meet, which will be held Saturday, May 22, in Jefferson City.

Alivia Baucom set a new Rock Port School record in the shot put with a distance of 12.51m (41’.50”).

Results for the EA and Rock Port athletes are as follows:

East Atchison

EA’s Keena Merriweather placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.54.

Girls 400 Meter Dash – 2nd, Keena Merriweather, 1:02.54

Tommi Martin won the 800 meter run at the Class 1 Section 4 Track meet with a time of 2:30.54.

Girls 300 Meter Hurdles – 2nd, Faith Anderson, 49.21

The EA girls 4×400 meter relay and 4×800 meter relay teams qualified for state competition. The 4×400 team finished in second place with a time of 4:19.75, and the 4×800 won their event with a time of 10:28.81. Faith Anderson placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.60m (5’3”) and second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.21.

Girls Pole Vault – 6th (tie), Dalaynie Drummond, 1.95m (6’4.75”)

Boys 3200 Meter Run – 8th, Daniel Lesher, 11:29.57

Boys 100 Meter Dash – 3rd, Kaylin Merriweather, 11.48

Boys 200 Meter Dash – 2nd, Kaylin Merriweather, 23.03

Kaylin Merriweather jumped 1.79m (5’10.5”) for a fourth place finish in the high jump. He also qualified for state in the 100 meter dash with a third place finish and the 200 meter dash (second place).

Rock Port

Girls 1600 Meter Run – 5th, Aubrey Watkins, 6:20.35

Aubrey Watkins finished third and qualified for state in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:08.84. She also placed fifth in the 1600 meter run.

Alivia Baucom broke the Rock Port school record and won the shot put with a distance of 12.51m (41’.5”). She also won the discus with a toss of 33.99m (111’6”).
