• Selections were made recently for membership in Tarkio College’s honorary organization, The Skulls of Seven. They are: Edward Chase, Mrs. Marjorie Coe Nesbitt, and Miss Lois Mae Hawkins, scholarship; Raymond Tiemeyer, debate; Fred Humphrey, athletics; and Minnie Sickman, dramatics. There was no student who could qualify for membership on excellence in oratory so that field is not represented in this year’s group.
• At a meeting of team managers and players Tuesday night at the community softball diamond, six teams representing veterans’ organizations, independent and high school groups, signed agreements to form a softball league which will play regularly scheduled games for the coming season.
• The 86th General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church of North America will convene Wednesday evening, May 29, in the chapel of Tarkio College at 7:30 p.m. A special train with 300 delegates is expected.
May 27, 1971
• Two Tarkio R-I faculty are retiring. Mr. Neal Neff is completing an educational career of 45 years at the end of this school term. Mr. Marvin Porter completes 43 years in the teaching profession at the end of this school term.
• The Tree Planting Committee reported at the Community Betterment meeting that 14 trees were planted last Friday in the city parks and for some individuals.
• Nearly 400 people drove and flew to the annual Flight Breakfast at Tarkio Sunday. There were 89 fly-ins in 30 planes and Gordon Keith Mauery, Faucett, Missouri, was the first plane in. At least 150 plane rides were given by Clint Levings, Stan Irvine, Mack Miller, Laurence D. Knepper, Eldon Breazier, Jim Cox, and O.E. Cox. Larry Jensen, Omaha, builder and pilot of an experimental plane, flew the aircraft to Tarkio’s fly-in.

• Rains caused a section of Route AA to washout two miles west on AA, which is approximately one mile north of Tarkio off of Hwy. 59.
• A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Tarkio’s new pool on Wednesday, May 15. Tarkio Mayor Vilas Jones put in the first shovel.
• Cars lined Main Street in Tarkio the past several days as insurance adjustors have been checking out hail damage as a result of the hail storm last Tuesday, May 14. Many area vehicles received extensive damage from the hail.
