May 17, 1946
• Rock Port’s 1946 seniors have been undergoing the rigors of their initiation into the alumni association this week. The boys dressed in long-handled union suits and the girls’ dressed in bathing suits, equipped with garden implements and garbed in outlandish fashion.
• A throng estimated at 250 attended the annual party of the Rock Port High School Alumni Association at the Memorial Building Wednesday evening. Miss Mary Million of the Class of 1946 was elected Alumni Queen. At the close of the evening’s activities, Curtis Clifton was elected president of the association and Bluford LaHue vice-president.
• Rock Port’s limited number of barbers has been augmented by another competent workman in the person of James Sipes of Forest City, who started work at Cliff Fentiman’s shop Monday morning.
• John E. Rosenbohm of near Langdon closed a deal late last week for the purchase of the Dr. Frederick Knierim residence property in Bischof’s addition. This is the modern home which was built several years ago by James F. Gore, Jr. and later sold to Dr. Knierim, the latter now located in Glasgow, Montana.
May 20, 1971
• Several Rock Port homes have changed hands and will have new occupants within the next few weeks. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hunt will be moving next week to St. Joseph. Their home on the corner of Cass and Nebraska Streets has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Bluford LaHue. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bogenreif have purchased the Bluford LaHue home at 413 Rainbow Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hackney and family are the new owners of the Gary Bogenreif house on Manor Circle.
• The Rock Creek dam proposal and alternatives received nearly all negative testimony at a public hearing on the proposed flood projects. Over 100 people registered for the meeting.
• The open house and dedication of the new Rock Port R-II Elementary and High School facilities will be held Sunday, May 23. Construction of the new elementary school began in March of 1970 with a total cost of $514,835.94, which did not include the renovation of the old high school building, new furniture and equipment, the parking area and the new athletic field, which are all complete at this time.
May 16, 1996
• The Rock Port boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Maryville, Missouri, Saturday, May 12, to compete in the District 8 Track Meet. The boys dominated the field, winning 10 of the 18 events and tallying a record-setting 176 team points and capturing their 5th consecutive District Championship title. The boys were led by Clint Gayler and Dana Brion, who compiled 60 team points between them. The Lady Jays were able to qualify one runner in a tough field. Mandy Shaw coasted to a second place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:35.12.
• Four-year-old Zack Pankau and his six-year-old brother, Camden, caught five pound, seven pound, and nine pound carp while fishing with their dad. They had quite a time (and a lot of fun) reeling these fish in on their inexpensive, small kiddie-type rods and reels.
• Mike Williams was recently hired as the new Junior-Senior High School Principal at the Rock Port R-II School District for the upcoming school year.
