The family of Richard E. Miller is pleased that a young man from our county schools applied this year for the scholarship for future mechanics who will hopefully return to Atchison County to help us keep our vehicles in good working condition. This year’s recipient was Joey Herron, a graduating senior at Rock Port High School.

Richard Miller lived his entire life in northwest Missouri, except for his time in the military service.

From early childhood it was evident that he had an interest in seeing how things worked, from his very first toys. Thank goodness he also had an incredible talent putting things back together again.

His future as an automotive mechanic was never in doubt, and he worked in Rock Port in that field his entire adult life. He was the owner and operator of Miller Automotive and later Rock Port Automotive for many years until his illness.

Richard’s many friends contributed to this scholarship fund in his honor. The Miller family hopes Joey will continue with his interest and training in automotive & agricultural mechanics, and that this scholarship will help him with his future education.
