Atchison County COVID-19 cases increase by one

The Atchison County Health Department reports one case of COVID-19 was reported in Atchison County May 10-17, and no cases reported May 17-24. As of May 24, there have been 459 total cases and 13 deaths. There are no active cases and no COVID-19 hospitalizations in our local hospital. The current seven-day testing positivity rate is 0%.

The Atchison County Health Department is able to perform free COVID-19 rapid testing. Testing is by appointment only. Call 660-736-4121.

UPDATES

As of May 24, 2021, Atchison County is ranked fourth in the state with 36.3% of residents completing vaccinations and ranked sixth in the state with 39.2% of residents receiving at least one COVID vaccine dose.

COVID-19 Vaccine

for 12- to 17-year-olds

Adolescents ages 12-17 years are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and require the Pfizer vaccine.

Ages 18+ can receive Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson.

Atchison County Health Department is taking a list of those interested in the Pfizer vaccine. Call 660-736-4121 to inquire. The Pfizer vaccine requires special storage and handling.

FACE MASK UPDATE FROM THE CDC

The following recommendations apply to non-healthcare settings. Fully vaccinated people can:

• Resume activities without wearing masks or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance

• Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel

• Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States

• Refrain from testing following a known exposure, if asymptomatic, with some exceptions for specific settings

• Refrain from quarantine following a known exposure if asymptomatic

• Refrain from routine screening testing if feasible

For now, fully vaccinated people should continue to:

• Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms

• Follow CDC and health department travel requirements and recommendations .
