OOPS! Needed is a correction to a previous article regarding the Westboro Rural Fire Association. The fire crew will not arrive with a mere trickle of 4,600 gallons of water on board as the article stated, but will arrive with 46,000 gallons of wet to quench the fire. Indeed, a difference of 41,400 gallons of water would make a difference.

Now to Center Grove Cemetery, located south of Westboro on State Highway O. An ad in the Westboro Enterprise newspaper in 1917 was, “NOTICE Any one desiring work at Center Grove Cemetery will please send sealed bids to Mrs. George Macrander, Westboro, MO, on or about May 15. Sec’y.”

It is 104 years later and the grass is still growing and needing clipped. The cemetery has many more graves added since 1917. Donations are always appreciated as it is a big cemetery to keep mowed and trimmed. Also, several flags are being replaced for the Avenue of Flags. Mother Nature isn’t always kind to our flags, what with winds that whip across the hill.  Our thanks to you who remember the cemetery through your memorials, gifts and volunteer labor toward the upkeep of the cemetery.

The Center Grove Cemetery Association will also have its annual meeting immediately following the American Legion presentation on Memorial Day. It is held in the maintenance building.

This Memorial Day, there will be the usual patriotic presentation and tribute by the combined Atchison-Holt American Legion members at or about 11:45 a.m. There will be friends to see and memories to re-visit. The Lewis Merrill Smith Auxiliary will offer coffee and cookies in the maintenance building.
