• “The Pep Parade” show benefiting veterans and their families was well enjoyed Thursday and Friday nights at the Tarkio High School Auditorium. Winners of the Tiny Tot Popularity Contest were announced. Winning the loving cup for receiving the highest number of votes (7,300) was Stephen Musch. Robin Patterson drew 5,600 votes and Linda Brunk, the winner of the girls, had 1,300 votes. Betty Carlisle won a prize for selling the most tickets for the show.

• Tuesday evening, Ted Nixon, who is one of the veterans taking flying lessons at the local airport, made a cross-country hop to Leon, Iowa, in a Taylorcraft plane. He was accompanied by Bob Waugh, instructor from Rock Port, and the two spent the night at Leon at the home of Mr. Nixon’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Nixon, then returned early Wednesday morning to Tarkio.

• C.E. Munn and William B. Munn have moved the office of the Munn Insurance Agency to the Harvey building on the south side of Main Street. J.D. Rankin and Earl Bowman are in the same office, located one door west of the Tarkio Electric Company.

July 8, 1971

• Caroline Munn, Senior Scout from Troop 115, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Munn of Tarkio, will represent the Midland Empire Girl Scout Council at the International Lake Superior Hike July 8-25.

• Mrs. Bess Schoonover retired last week after nearly 46 years in the beauty business. She and her husband, Orville, owned and operated beauty shops in Westboro and Tarkio. Her customers during the past years have covered three generations.

• Over 90 cowgirls and cowboys will be competing for prizes and honors in Tarkio this weekend at the 16th annual Missouri State High School Championship Rodeo.

July 4, 1996

• For Tifani Beason, 16-year-old daughter of Dave and Cherie Beason of Tarkio, riding, roping, and rodeoing describe her summer. Tifani qualified for and competed in the Missouri High School Rodeo finals held June 20-22 in Ozark, Missouri. Tifani qualified in breakaway calf roping. Tifani is also breakaway roping in URA Rodeos and, at this time, has qualified for the URA finals to be held in Columbia, Missouri.

• Eight individuals departed Kansas City International Airport June 6 en route to England. Among these individuals were Jack and Doris Ann Schmidt, Kelli Prater, Monica Martin, Heather Currie, Angelica Erickson, Lori Seymour, and Carolyn (Martin) Moberly. Cities and sites toured included London, Stonehenge, Stratford, Oxford, York, Warwick Castle, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the British Museum, and the Changing of the Guards.

• A truck turning the corner from south to east at Casey’s in Tarkio caught telephone wires causing parts of Tarkio to be without service. The truck was carrying a back hoe, which caught the cable television and telephone wire, pulling it down and causing the pole to break. The lines went down across the highway, into the Fletcher Motors car lot, damaging five vehicles.
