The Fairfax Board of Aldermen met July 21, 2021. The meeting was called to order at 6:44 p.m. by alderman Michael Oswald at 6:44 p.m. Present were: Michael Oswald, Kristi Duering, and Tabitha Wintz, aldermen; Ryan Kingery, mayor; John Brown, Water Superintendent; and Lori Helfers, City Clerk.

The tentative agenda was approved.

Nathan Thomas was present to discuss the city’s 2020 audit. He presented the audit with no significant findings. Nathan left the meeting at 7:10 p.m.

The regular minutes of June 16, 2021, were approved, as well as accounts payable.

A discussion was held concerning the safety of the sidewalk on the west side of city hall. John Brown presented the council with estimates for the needed repair. Kristi Duering made a motion to repair the sidewalk. Tabitha Wintz seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Dennis Martin, Atchison County Sheriff, is ready to start delivering the third set of nuisance letters for the City of Fairfax. 

Funding for the CDBG street grant has still not been announced. The council discussed going ahead with some repairs on the city streets. John will work on getting estimates.  

John and Lori will continue working with Andi Macias, Snyder Engineering, and Jerri Dearmont, Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Goverments, on the CDBG street grant. 

Danny Kemerling was not present, but his treasurer’s report showed that all accounts are in balance. 

Lori Helfers reported she has been in contact with Amy Dowis, Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, concerning the funding from the American Rescue Plan. All necessary paperwork has been filed.

Lori reminded the council of the City-Wide Clean-Up scheduled for the weekend of July 30.

Lori will be on vacation August 4-6, 2021. 

John Brown informed the council that the front of the stage in the city park has been cleaned up, power washed and painted, and new shrubs and mulch have been put down.

John has been contacted by two individuals about putting in two memorial benches in the park. The request was approved by the council. John will be on vacation August 5 and 6, 2021.

There was a discussion about changing the date of the August meeting due to scheduling conflicts. It was decided to move the meeting to Tuesday, August 17, at 6:30 p.m.
