Cheryl A. Whipple, the daughter of Gordon Wellington Andersen and Dorothy Maxine (Veatch) Andersen, was born January 6, 1952, in Shenandoah, Iowa. Cheryl graduated from Farragut High School, Farragut, Iowa, in 1970, where she participated in basketball, making the state playoffs. She then attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Missouri, for one year and Peru State College for two years, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

On May 22, 1971, Cheryl was united in marriage to John Whipple at the Farragut Methodist Church. They made their home near Sidney, Iowa. Later they moved to the Locust Grove Township, Iowa, where they became parents of two children, Trevor and Dara. This is where they have made their home to this present time.

Cheryl taught Social Studies in Nebraska City, Nebraska, for three years. While there Cheryl coached the junior high girls’ basketball team. After moving to the Locust Grove Township, Cheryl moved her career closer to home, where she taught in Hamburg, Iowa, for 27 years, retiring in 2011. She was one of her students’ favorites and was loved by them all! She was also a farmer’s wife and loved helping in the family farm operation, especially loving the animals.

Cheryl was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Northboro, where she formerly taught Sunday School and Bible School, where she got to share her strong faith. She was currently attending First Baptist Church, Tarkio, Missouri. Cheryl was a former 4-H leader. She volunteered at the Sidney Iowa Rodeo, enjoyed gardening, leathercraft, stained glass, baking and chocolate! Cheryl passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 69.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include husband, John Whipple, Shenandoah; children, Trevor Whipple and his wife, Mandy, Northboro, and Dara Whipple, Tarkio; grandchildren, Collin, Nathaniel, Brody, and Bryar; brother, Wayne Andersen and his wife, Susan, Johnston, Iowa; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church, Tarkio. Interment will be held at Walden Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri. Open visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Stable Care, Inc.
