Make plans to attend the Fairfax Fair this weekend. The events will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 20-22, with this year’s theme being “Magic on Main Street.” See the schedule of events on page B2.

Atchison County students will be heading back to class next week. Fairfax students will begin classes Monday, August 23. School at Tarkio will resume Tuesday, August 24. Rock Port students will return to school Wednesday, August 25. Please be careful while driving near the schools and stop for any students crossing the streets or buses loading and unloading.

This past weekend, many were shocked to discover personal items stolen out of their vehicles parked in their driveways in Rock Port. Unfortunately, we have entered a time where it’s not safe to leave anything unlocked or available for thieves to get their hands on. Be sure to lock your vehicles, take out personal possessions and bring them into the house each night, and think about setting up personal security systems and/or cameras.

This last week the newspaper world lost one of its biggest supporters. Nancy Gaines and her husband Bob were the former publishers of the Fairfax Forum. You never had to guess what was on her mind. Nancy always had a smile and some words of wisdom when I would stop in at KG Buds to check in on things. She loved her Fairfax community and her friends. She will be missed.
