
Helen Caroline (Rosenbohm) Van Meter, 100, passed away August 17, 2021, at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas.
She was born on January 13, 1921, and grew up in Langdon, Missouri. Helen was the daughter of John and Emma (Tiemeyer) Rosenbohm. Helen graduated from Rock Port High School in 1939. She was a faithful member of the Rock Port Lutheran Church, worked at the Bank of Atchison County in Rock Port, the California Bank in Los Angeles, and at Farmland Industries in Kansas City.
Helen was married to Cecil Van Meter, Jr. on March 1, 1946, at the end of World War II. She enjoyed living on the farm with her family and later, after moving to Rock Port, delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen loved crossword puzzles, listening to music, and traveling. She was an active supporter of 4-H and delivered “Meals on Wheels” for 25 years.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Cecil; sons, Steve and Gordon; infant daughter, Patricia Ann; infant great-granddaughter, Ruth; and her sister, Vivian Boettner.
Helen is survived by her daughters-in-law, Sarah Van Meter (Rock Port) and Eva Jo Van Meter (Overland Park); grandchildren, Doug (Rebecca) Van Meter, Overland Park, Kansas, Kim (John) Fulkerson, Salina, Kansas, and Amy (Jake) Francis, Urbandale, Iowa; and step-grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Joesting of Rock Port and Tim (Shannon) Muntz of Oak Grove, Missouri. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Judson and Mary Van Meter, Will, Isabel, and Mya Fulkerson, and Ty, Hayden, Luke, and Aubrey Francis; and step-great-grandchildren, Cody, Cavin (Emily), and Colin Joesting and Tarver Muntz. She is also survived by three nieces, Anita Sutter, Vicki Melies, and Jackie Perry, as well as numerous extended family.
A graveside memorial service and inurnment was held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Grange Hall Cemetery, Rock Port, conducted by Rev. Franz Brandenburg. Contributions in memory of Helen may be made to First Lutheran Church of Rock Port, Grange Hall Cemetery in Rock Port, and Hunter Cemetery in Rock Port.
