The Rock Port Blue Jays started their 2021 football season traveling to DeKalb to take on the Tigers Friday, August 27.

It was a slow start for the Jays as DeKalb would strike first on the Tigers’ opening drive. The Jays’ defense would pull it together after that and those first points would be the only ones for DeKalb.

The Jays’ defense would make the first score for Rock Port, getting a safety and earning them two points.

Following a penalty, the Tigers kicked off and Phillip Herron would return the ball to the 20 yard line, giving Rock Port excellent field position to start their second drive. Three plays later, Micah Makings would punch it in for six. The two point conversion was good, making the score 10-8 RP.

Phillip Herron would score next for the Jays, followed by Aidan Burke with a long run to put six more points on the board. At the end of the first half, the score was 32-8.

The Jays would start the second half with the ball and midway through the third quarter score 22 more points to give the Jays a 54-8 lead and the ball game was called.

Rock Port will be at home on Friday night, September 3, taking on Platte Valley. Tailgate starts at 5:00 p.m. with burgers, chips, and water available for a free-will donation. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
