• James K. Hunter has purchased the Shafer and Davis residence property in southeast Fairfax and he and his family will move to the place to make their home when they get possession.
• Don Ray has purchased the stock and equipment of the Rolofson Service Station and has taken over the lease. Lyle Rolofson of Tarkio has operated the station for the past year or more.
• The Forum is compelled to print 12 pages this week to carry its advertising and news. Those who mail the paper to relatives or friends will need to place a 2-cent stamp on the wrapper instead of the normal 1-cent.
• Dean Hedrick has joined The Forum force and is now learning about points, picas, and printer’s lingo. He has had a session or two with the linotypes and put a few items of this issue into type.
September 16, 1971
• The newest members of the Fairfax R-3 Future Farmers of America, dressed in farmers’ outfits, cowboy hats, and dark sunglasses, were initiated September 14, at the ag building. New members are Roger Walker, Larry Hawkins, Cale Slemons, Mark Hawkins, Greg Wennihan, Gary Johnson, Jerry Hall, Danny Payton, and Dicky Wake.
• Eleven students were initiated into the Future Homemakers of America at Fairfax R-3. Carrying out the state of Missouri’s 150th anniversary, the girls were dressed as frontier women with bonnets, long dresses, bloomers, boots, etc., carrying buckets and washboards. New members are Marilyn Jones, April White, Brenda Woods, Sharon Swindler, Darla Hansen, Regina Hubbard, Reta McCartney, Debbie Miller, Jony Lawrence, Brenda Hawkins, and Laura Bradfield.
• Mr. and Mrs. Merle Barr of Omaha, Nebraska, have purchased the Dairy Diner from the Earl Davids and took possession of the business September 15.
• Two Arabian horse shows Saturday and Sunday at Grand Island and Blair, Nebraska, produced great results for Ko-TUN, a gelding owned by Dorothie Seymour. The horse earned three ribbons and two large trophies in Grand Island. In Blair, Ko-TUN was shown by Mrs. Seymour and Gale Seymour and placed in all 10 classes.
September 12, 1996
• The Atchison County firefighters gathered at Fairfax Saturday for an afternoon of classes and finalizing with an actual fire. There were 24 firemen present, four instructors and two paramedics from the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District. Fire departments from Fairfax, Tarkio, Rock Port, Westboro, and Watson were represented.
• Four families from Atchison County recently qualified to have their farms designated as Missouri Century Farms. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lee Cooper, Rock Port; Mr. Hal Davis, Fairfax; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Miles, Fairfax; and Thomas and Nancy Dunham, Westboro.
