Harvest season is just around the corner and the farmers will be busy in the fields. There was another farmer that Jesus talked about in a parable, found in Luke 12: 16-21. In verse 16 it says the ground of a farmer produced a lot of grain, enough for many years. It produced so much that he did not have enough room to store it. So he tore the barns down and built new barns to hold all the grain that he harvested.

Whenever Jesus taught a parable there is a spiritual side. The farmer thought that all the grain was his and he didn’t worry about anyone else. The farmer didn’t realize that all that he had was really from God. He toiled the soil, he planted the seed, he tended the soil, and gathered the harvest. He worked at it. He was foolish in his thoughts. His wealth was trapped in materialism. Not being sensitive to others. Just as sin traps us.

Matthew 19:24, “And again I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” The main reason the man was foolish is that he was more concerned about riches than his soul. We have to be worried not to let wealth ruin our spirituality. We have to store up spiritual treasures in heaven that will last, not in material things which will not last. Spiritual treasure: Faith, James 2:5 and good deeds, I Timothy 6: 18-19. We must empty our heart of greed, pride, and other sins so that the riches of God can come in.
