Atchison County Piecemakers Quilt Guild met August 3, 2021, at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Rock Port for their monthly meeting. The meeting was called to order by Rosita Stoner, president, with everyone saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call was answered with, “Besides sewing, what is your other pastime?” The majority liked to spend time reading.
Four members participated in the fat quarter exchange. Rosita won the fat quarters. Rosita read a short article, “Good reasons to buy fabric.”
Minutes were read and approved and the treasurer’s report was read and approved.
Linda talked about her trip to Alabama, some quilt shops she went to, and the quilt show at Paducah.
We briefly discussed our May Guild Exchange with the Maryville Krazy Quilters and the Sheridan Stitch and Chatter Quilters. Ruthie mentioned that the Krazy Quilters may disband. Rosita mentioned asking the Watson Quilters to come to our May get-together. We discussed participating in the Linus Project. Each member is to make a quilt for the Linus project and bring it to the November meeting.
Rosita suggested everyone bring one yard of ugly fabric in December in a brown bag. We will exchange them then bring a completed project back in March showing what was made from the ugly fabric received.
Linda showed a “Lovie Lap Quilt” pattern of a throw she had talked about last month for nursing home residents. Strips, charm packs or panels could be used. Linda suggested we table it until one is actually made.
In show and tell Susan showed a Log Cabin quilt she made from batiks. She used the 12” Log Cabin trim tool made by Creative Grid that she purchased from Quilters Boutique.
Rosita showed a half Log Cabin table topper made in blue, dark green and orange. A star block was on the back side. It is for her daughter.
Ruthie shared a story about a seventh grade student who at Christmas time had given her a small porcelain figurine of a little girl sitting on a fence. Ruthie still has the figurine. She passed it around for all of us to look at.
Donna showed the very first quilt that she had made. It was an Underground Railroad Quilt and she made it at Fabric Unique. Donna said that Ava (the owner of Fabrics Unique) told her she was to give a program on the Underground Railroad and it was for the Atchison County Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Donna also showed an Alien Outer Space quilt for a child. Donna said that she likes it the most. Donna also showed a doll quilt that was quilted in shoes. Her daughter Rema had quilted it.
Linda displayed a log cabin on a diamond table topper on the food table. She also displayed a napkin embroidered with watermelons. It was her first embroidery project. Linda showed us a necklace that Russell had gotten for her at the Paducah quilt show. She also told us of a quilt that she had seen at the quilt show that was carved out of wood.
Linda provided delicious refreshments for the evening.
Our next meeting will be September 7 at 5:00 p.m. at the Rock Port Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Anna Beth from the Quilted Farm will present a program on sewing shortcuts. Come and join us.
