The 2021-22 school year is off and running! A special thank you to our staff, students, and parents on a great first month of school. We have 202 eager students returning to the halls of Rock Port Elementary. We welcomed 10 new students and four new staff members to the Blue Jay family. New staff include Mrs. Carpenter (second grade), Mrs. Paris (paraprofessional), Mrs. Sons (Special Education), and Mrs. Welch (in-house substitute).

Student council elections were held last week. It is always great to see the time and effort students put into their posters, catchy slogans, and class speeches as they make their case with the voters. In all, 24 students ran for student council this year. Congratulations to our 2021-22 Student Council members: Cooper Daugherty, Olivia Roup, Rozlyn McCown, Tenley Peshek, Briar Daugherty, Maeve Roup, Jack Bailey, and Cy Vogler.

September’s Energy Bus Principle is “You’re the Driver.” This means taking responsibility for one’s actions and decisions. We celebrated our first Energy Bus assembly of the year with a skit to show what it means to be the driver of our bus (life). We had fun trying to reenact how it is difficult to drive our own bus and someone else’s bus at the same time. We also introduced some year long student incentives for reaching math and reading goals. In life it takes hard work, focus, and effort to reach our goals; the same is true with our academic goals in school.

Upcoming events include: September 21, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft will visit fourth-fifth grade classes; September 22, first quarter midterm; September 24, Frozen Friday; September 27, no school, Professional Development Day; September 28, after-school tutoring begins; and September 29, Workout Wednesday.
