September 27, 1946

• German prisoners of war who were employed by Warren Chambers most of the summer of 1945 and were from the Shenandoah prisoner of war camp sent a letter back here once they returned home. The four men were James “Jakob,” Kurt, George “Georg,” and the writer, Karl Quandt. The writer was reunited with his wife and children and asked to be sent a food packet to cheer up his wife and children as there is a lack of all things in Germany.

• Milford L. Youel has purchased the Mrs. Mary Rhoades residence property in north Fairfax. It will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brindle and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fulton have bought the Youel property in south Fairfax, which was occupied by the Brindles.

September 30, 1971

• Elaine Park, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayman Park, received $5 by mail as a prize in a “Be An Artist” contest, sponsored by an oil company. She entered the contest through the elementary art program taught by Mrs. Junior Slemons at Fairfax R-3 School.

• The second annual 4-H Bicycle Rodeo will be held October 3, at the Rock Port City Park. There will be a decoration contest, obstacle tests, races, and a skills test.

• Fairfax members of the Community Hospital Auxiliary will meet at the Dale Seymour home Thursday, October 7, to make apple butter. Apples have been furnished by Dr. Cleveland.

• Opal Long of Tarkio recently leased the Truck Stop south of Fairfax from Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith and will operate it under the name of Violet’s Truck Stop.

September 26, 1996

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “The Fairfax Country Store is one year old now. They had coffee and donuts for their customers Friday as a thank you. Sue and Dan are providing a service to this community…” “Fall is officially here. Where did the summer go? And Nebraska Big Red lost their first football game in three years and it had been 20 years since they were shut out. The Chiefs won Sunday. Fairfax Bulldogs won, too. Hooray!”

• As the homecoming football game was about to begin, a rain shower passed over, followed by a double rainbow. It did not last long and the game continued, with the Fairfax Bulldogs going on to win 72-26 over the North Nodaway Mustangs. Brooke Osburn was named Homecoming Queen and Jarod Graves, Homecoming King.

• The Atchison-Holt Ambulance District Board of Directors has tentatively accepted Dan Noland as director of Emergency Medical Services for the ambulance district. Gene Bradley will remain as acting director of Emergency Medical Services, pending financial approval by the board.
