The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry Board met September 14, 2021, with 13 members present. Churches represented were Fairfax – Christian, Methodist and Presbyterian; Tarkio – Baptist, First Christian, Catholic and Presbyterian; Westboro – United Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran. Sam O’Riley represented Community Services. Pastor Mark Moon from the Tarkio and Fairfax Presbyterian Churches and Father Duc Nyguyen from the Catholic Church were also in attendance.

President Anne Barnett presided over the meeting. In July, 37 families representing 59 individuals were served. In August, 39 families representing  69 individuals were assisted. Treasurer Anita Sutter presented the treasurer’s report. She also reported on the work that has been done to the exterior of the food pantry building. Members are pleased with the work done and invite all to stop by and see the improvements.

With chillier weather approaching, the following items are needed: beans, chili style beans, diced tomatoes (chili ready), Hamburger Helper, sugar and flour. Monetary donations are always appreciated as the costs of many food items have increased greatly.

The Tarkio United Methodist Church will open the food pantry in October.  In November, the Tarkio Christian Church is responsible for opening the pantry and in December, board members will open the pantry. During November and December, the food pantry will open one week earlier due to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The next board meeting will be Monday, November 8, at 9:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.
