• A. H. Bloom and son, who have been in the oil business in Shenandoah, have bought the Hiway service station from George Woolsey and will operate it. Both Mr. Bloom and the son plan to move to Rock Port as soon as living quarters can be found.
• Nineteen youngsters from the second and third grades of the local schools – 18 girls and one boy – exhibited their skill as baton twirlers between the Rock Port and Tarkio football game Friday evening. They are becoming adept at this art and may one day overshadow the ball games.
• A rainy, disagreeable evening failed to damper the ardor of bidders at Virgil E. Walter & Son’s sale of Spotted Poland Chinas at the local sales pavilion Thursday evening of last week. The top boar brought $825. The gilt that brought in the highest price sold for $350. Virgil and Byron Walter’s sale brought in a total of $12,197, which ranks the auction among the five top sales of Spotted Polands for the year throughout the country.

• In Fairfax News: “Mr. and Mrs. Larry Walker, Kevin, and Elizabeth moved last week to the farm they recently purchased. Moving to this farm was like a homecoming to Larry for his parents lived there while he was growing up. His children are the fifth generation of Walkers to live on this farm.”
• A bid of $34,980 for paving Country Club Drive was accepted from Loch Sand and Construction of Maryville. The construction is expected to begin soon and will hopefully be completed before bad weather sets in; otherwise, the work will be delayed until spring.
• Larry Chapple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chapple of Rock Port, is a member of the Marching Mizzou 192-piece band. The band will perform at the halftime show of the Kansas City Chiefs game November 21.
• James Ottmann, Rock Port, has been promoted to vice-president of the Citizens Bank of Atchison County and Jack Kelly, Rock Port, has been promoted to cashier.
• The Rock Port Homecoming King and Queen of 1971 are Gary Howell and Joni Cooper. They were crowned in a post game ceremony on the newly dedicated field of Blue Jay Stadium.

• Jill Block and Jeremy Davis wish to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage. Vows will be exchanged October 26, 1996, at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port.
• Corey Herron recently passed the Missouri Bar Exam and was sworn in as Grundy County’s newest attorney during ceremonies held at Grundy County Courthouse. On Friday, October 11, Corey received his license during ceremonies before the Supreme Court in Jefferson City, Missouri, and was also sworn in to a District Court in the Western District of Missouri.
• In ’Round Town: “Otto Staashelm’s tobacco crop is ready. He planted some ‘Burley’ tobacco plants around May 10th. Bill said he’d smoke the tobacco if Otto would roll them for him…” “Heard tell that at Old-Fashioned Saturday Night, Charlie Baird won a gift certificate to Heather’s Beauty Salon in Tarkio for a free waxing! Is that why Charlie’s head is so smooth?”
• Taron and Thyra Davis sold the most sweatshirts in the latest Room Mothers Association fundraiser. Taron and Thyra won the prize of a portable stereo, provided by Radio Shack at half price.
• Tyler Gebhards and Jennifer Eilers were crowned king and queen at Saturday’s homecoming football game against the Bishop Hogan Rams.
• Ronald Bennington, owner of Bennington Auto Service located at 110 and Hwy. 136 West, recently added U-Haul truck and trailer rentals.
