December 20, 1946

• The Daleview school and community program will be held Friday night at the Daleview school building. There will be a Christmas tree. Schools participating are Walkup’s Grove, Spring Valley, Salem, South Center, and West Point.

• R.O. Seymour of Melette, S.D., is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Seymour, and brothers, Ralph and Vern. He and his brothers are doing some coyote hunting and have killed 10 since he came.

• Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Warnstaff, accompanied by the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Warnstaff of Hamburg, left Tuesday afternoon for Los Angeles and Glendale, California, where they will visit relatives. The trip is being made by auto. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bowman returned Monday from a two weeks’ trip to California where they attended the National Farm Bureau convention in San Francisco and later visited Southern California.

• Henry Bowness of east of Fairfax suffered head injuries and a badly dislocated elbow while attempting to lower a grain elevator from a crib Sunday morning. The crank struck him in the elbow knocking him to the ground and after he fell the crank continued turning and struck him on the head several times.

December 23, 1971

• Beta Sigma Phi members, their husbands, and families, enjoyed the evening Christmas caroling around Fairfax Monday, December 20. Afterwards, the group went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Alldredge and family for hot chocolate and donuts. Santa Claus also appeared with treats for the youngsters.

• The home of Mr. and Mrs. Dona Maris was judged first in overall beauty in the home Yule Decor Competition in Fairfax. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Carter’s home placed second and the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Logsdown was third.

December 19, 1996

• The dream of being the starting quarterback in the high school state championship football game came to a crashing halt for Fairfax senior Zac Smith. A horse jumped into Smith’s path while he was approaching the intersection of Highway 59 on November 21 at approximately 8:00 p.m. It landed on the hood of his ‘94 Cutlass Supreme, hit the windshield and traveled over the top of the car, taking the entire roof of the car with it. Zac’s seat was slid back to its maximum ability and leaned back, saving his life. He had many pieces of glass in his eyes, suffered a laceration to the cornea of his left eye, had a broken nose, and had two massive facial gashes.

• Rebecca S. Draper, M.S.W., who recently located in the area from Novi, Michigan, began her duties as a social worker for Community Hospital, Fairfax, in November.

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Thought for the day…’taint no use to grumble and complain; it’s just as easy to rejoice. When God sorts out the weather and sends the rain . . . why rain is my choice.’”
