
James “Jim” Edward Frede, the son of Harry “H.V.” Virgil and Heibe Sophia (Warneke) Frede, was born July 27, 1927, at the family farm in rural Rock Port, Missouri. Jim attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, graduating in 1945. He then was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country in the reconstruction of Germany after World War II. Jim received his honorable discharge in 1947 and returned to Rock Port to farm with his father.
In 1944, Jim met Marcia Louise Johnson in the mule barn at Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show where they were both showing livestock. On June 11, 1950, Jim was united in marriage to Marcia at the United Methodist Church, Westboro, Missouri. They became parents of two children, Janet Leigh and David Edward, and made their home on the family farm in Rock Port. Jim and Marcia enjoyed 71 years of marriage. He was a dedicated farmer, herdsman, and steward of the soil.
Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rock Port, recently attending the First Christian Church, Rock Port. He was also a member of North Star Masonic Lodge #157, Rock Port, B.P.O. Elks Lodge, Nebraska City, Nebraska, and served 15 years on Greenhill Cemetery Board, Rock Port. Jim was a 4-H leader and was awarded the Extension Balanced Farmer award in 1980’s. Jim passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 94.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by infant brother and sister, Helen; brother-in-law, Curtis Clifton; and nephew, Gary Clifton. Survivors include wife, Marcia Frede, Rock Port; children, Janet and David Taylor, Gravois Mills, Missouri, and David and Karen Frede, Mound City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Anne (Jay) Davidson, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Benjamin (Elaina) Frede, Columbia, Missouri, and Sally Frede, St. Joseph, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Ryann and Will Davidson, and Charlotte and Elliott Frede; and nephew, Ray Clifton, Raymore, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021, at First Christian Church, Rock Port. Open visitation begins at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service.
