Herbert Dale Hoeppner, the son of Herbert August and Juanita Marie (Shier) Hoeppner, was born August 31, 1937, in Mayview, Missouri. Dale graduated from Mayview High School in 1955. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from University of Central Missouri (formerly Central Missouri State University). Dale was first employed as an accountant for the Patent Scaffolding Company and H.D. Lee Co., both in Kansas City, Missouri. He was then transferred with H.D. Lee Co. to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On June 12, 1965, Dale was united in marriage to Carol LaMoyne Mengel at the Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church in Raytown, Missouri. They made their first home in Minneapolis. He and Carol owned and operated the L’il General Convenience Store. Their three children, Jeannie, Sally and Stan were born in Minneapolis. In 1971 the family moved to Tarkio, Missouri. They owned and operated the Western Auto store until 1989. Dale was then appointed Atchison County Collector by the Missouri Governor. He was re-elected and held this position until retiring in 2003.
Dale was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity, Tarkio Presbyterian Church, Rock Port Rotary Club, Rock Port, Missouri, and was a Boy Scout leader. He loved fishing and deer hunting. He especially enjoyed riding his scooter around Tarkio and visiting with many friends. His fondest memories are spending summers with his family at Edgewild Resort on Fox Lake in Minnesota.
Dale passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 84.
Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Tye and Elaine Nalley. Survivors include wife, Carol Hoeppner, Tarkio; children, Jeannie (John) Montanelli, Nemaha, Nebraska, Sally (Bob) Landreth, Kansas City, Missouri, and Stan Hoeppner, Tarkio; grandsons, Nicholas and Danny Landreth; brother, Carl (Helen) Hoeppner, Mayview; sisters-in-law, Norma Storms, Raytown, Doris Crouch, Fort Worth, Texas, and Nancy Heller, Independence, Missouri; brother-in-law, Lloyd Mengel, Pensacola, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, atTarkio Presbyterian Church, Tarkio, conducted by Pastor Mark Moon. The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
