It’s hard to believe that we’re already at mid-term of third quarter! We are starting to gear up for spring testing in the classrooms. Many of our student organizations are heading into contest time. Winter sports are approaching the final stretch of the regular season. It’s a busy – but wonderful – time to be a Blue Jay!
One topic that you may have heard about is the potential of broadening junior high sports. For the 2022-23 school year, MSHSAA will allow 6th grade students to participate in junior high athletics along with 7th and 8th grade students. The rule change will also disallow a provision that let 9th grade students play down to the junior high level. Currently Rock Port is considering which sports to allow our 6th grade students to join. Among the factors that will help guide our decisions are student safety, physical/emotional maturity, school scheduling, and participation numbers. Any changes to our current offerings would be sport specific only and have no effect on classification of 6th grade in terms of academics.
The Rock Port R-II school district offers a variety of ways to keep in touch with our happenings. RPHS will continue to livestream all our indoor events on the YouTube. The web address is www.bit.ly/RPHSyoutube. Athletic and academic updates can be found on the Twitter by following our handle: @RPBlueJays. If you are looking to receive elementary, high school, and/or athletic updates via our text caster service, you can sign up on the school’s web page at www.rockport.k12.mo.us. Click on “Blue Jay Text Alerts” in the right hand column. As always, feel free to contact me at the school through phone, email, or in-person visit.
Go Big Blue!!!
