February 14, 1947

• Lorraine Hopkins will operate the Atchison County Library’s bookmobile, which will be in service soon. Lorraine, his wife and daughter will make their home in Rock Port and Lorraine will start as soon as the new truck arrives.

• George Bilby has purchased from Carroll Schooler the property in the southeast part of Fairfax known as the Swinehart property and will move his family to it to make their home April 1st. The William Swinehart family has been living in the place.

• Harlan J. Donelson will hold a public sale at the farm known as the Donelson Turkey Farm on Saturday, February 15. He will sell 12 portable brooder houses, poultry feeders, waterers, other poultry equipment, implements, shop equipment, a Farmall tractor, some livestock, household goods, and miscellaneous articles. The Wade Club will serve free turkey sandwiches.

February 17, 1972

• “Attention Men, Customers, Would-Be Customers, Friends: Fish Fry at Jim Smith’s Truck Barn South of Fairfax, Missouri, Friday, February 18, 7:00 p.m. until your capacity is met. A friendly gesture extended by Bob Lingerfelt, Texaco Service Station, and Alva Stoner, Texaco Bulk Service, Dealers in Fine Texaco and Firestone Products.”

• The Fairfax Bulldogs won first and the Lady Bulldogs second at the 275 Conference Basketball Tournament held in Oregon, Missouri.

• Everyone in sight lent a helping hand to move a heavy safe up the street to the temporary quarters of the Exchange Bank of Fairfax in the Clem Peters Building. Charles L. Moore was the last customer to do business in the old bank building. He has been a customer of the bank since he began business with his brother in Fairfax in 1931. With his departure from the bank, the curtain was drawn for the last time on the building that has housed the Exchange Bank since 1893.

February 13, 1997

• In the Fairfax R-3 Mass Communications publication of the newspaper “The Chronicle”: By Megan Cooper – “No one knew why Mike Tracy was absent from school last Monday, but when he came back he was sporting a new Navy identification card. Mike was absent because he was enlisting in the United States Navy in Kansas City. Mike has always dreamt of working underwater and now that he is in the Navy he will be trained in deep underwater rescue.”

• The Early Childhood Classroom recently received a generous grant from the Morgan Trust of Rock Port. A newer computer was purchased for use during speech/language classes. In addition, a larger monitor was purchased so more children could benefit from the use of the computer at one time.

• FHA Week is a time for all chapters of FHA across the nation to be recognized. This year it takes place from February 10 to 14. The freshmen initiates were Crystal Pester, Brandy Paris, Tasha Avrett, Jessica Ray, Jessica Johnson, Traci Davis, Tiffany Taylor, Lacy Sly, and Marcy Pennel.

• The Fairfax Firemen recently elected Robert Erwin as their fire chief. Erwin has spent 20 years with the fire department and he replaces Roger Southard as chief. Roger is retiring from the department and a dinner will be held in his honor in March.
