February 14, 1947
• Clarence Barnhart has purchased from the heirs of Chas. L. Muinch the Muinch property near the school building. Miss Augusta White, who looked after the welfare of Mr. Muinch for several years before his death, has been occupying the property. The Barnhart family has occupied an apartment in the Bank of Atchison County for several years since moving to town from their farm northwest of Rock Port.
• Showing the growing interest in the farm discussion meetings which are being held in the agriculture room of the Rock Port school building, some 50 farmers were present for Monday’s discussion of erosion control.
• Billy Strong, who escaped from the local county jail on February 1st through the alleged connivance of a girl friend, was captured at Willmar, Minnesota, the first of the week. Strong had attempted to pass a check at a store at that place and his actions aroused suspicion. He was taken into custody by a deputy sheriff who chanced to arrive at the store as Strong was leaving.
• Teacher: “What’s the fastest growing thing in nature?” Pupil: “A fish, from the time Daddy lands it until he tells about it at our next party.”
February 10, 1972
• The sweetheart month seems to be a lasting month for marriages especially for Rock Port’s Mr. and Mrs. Charley Hall, who celebrated their 71st anniversary February 5. The Halls were married on that day in 1901 at the home of Rev. Laughlin in Rock Port. They have spent their entire life in the Rock Port community, where they farmed until retiring and moving into town. Mr. Hall is 97 and Mrs. Hall is 93. Their marriage of 71 years was known nationwide when it was announced by Paul Harvey on his morning radio program last week.
• Those applying for the county engineer’s job to replace retiring Fred Martin are: Harry Broermann, Darrell Jones, Robert Bargman, and Gene Moe. Judges of the county court Orville Mather, Fred Daugherty, and Neal Judy are expected to choose an engineer for the $6,000 a year job some time next week.
• Melvin Rolf sold 1,220 acres of land at public auction recently. Two hundred acres of the total – improved land set up for cattle feeding – was in Atchison County and was bought by Laurence Mulvania for $426 per acre.

• Cherished Cherubs, a Christian childcare ministry of First Lutheran Church, was dedicated Sunday, February 2, 1997. The childcare center opened with 15 children on Monday.
• Tim Taylor was recently appointed manager for the Rock Port Board of Public Works. Tim has worked for 22 years for the BPW.
• Lacy Lingerfelt was crowned queen and Danny Palmer, king, of the Rock Port High School 1997 Basketball Homecoming.
• The Rock Port Blue Jays were seeded fourth but came home with the Grand River Conference Championship. Conference champions in their weight divisions are Joe Bremer, Troy Cook, Jeremy Slenker.
