February 21, 1947
• Rock Port has a new Boy Scout troop which will be known as an air troop and be concerned chiefly in things having to do with aircraft. There are five charter members and others will be added as fast as possible.
• Hardin Cox, who has been with the army at Camp Stoneman, California, for some time, telephoned his parents Monday evening that he was to leave there Wednesday of this week for Yokohama, Japan. He goes by way of Honolulu and Guam.
• Lyle Watts received a branch from an orange tree with 19 oranges on it, grown in the yard of Mrs. Austin Welch of Redlands, California, Mrs. Mary Chamberlain’s daughter.
• Chester Clifton has sold his farm southwest of Linden to Chas. Hodde, who recently sold his farm near Watson. Mr. Clifton said that when he came to Atchison County with his farming equipment and livestock, he drove his cattle across the ice on the Missouri River at Brownville, Nebraska, as the ice was 34 inches thick and perfectly safe for crossing.

• The winners of the Librarians Sweetheart Contests are Rock Port sophomores Cindy Markham and Kevin Stoner. The total amount of the money collected from all the classes was $28.78.
• In Blue Jay Corner: Last week, a poll was taken among the sophomore class to see who was the “most” among their classmates. Some of the results follow: “Best Dressed” – Kathy Burke and Clay Knierim; “Best Dancers” – Jill Wanamaker and Clay Knierim; “Biggest Flirt” – Kim Burke; “Best Drivers” – Jill Wanamaker and Martin Schomburg; and “Biggest Goof-Offs” – Becky Shubat and Lowell McCormick.
• Sgt. Donnie Heckel is home on leave from the Air Force and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loraine Heckel, Rock Port. Sgt. Heckel is on a 30-day leave following a four-year tour of duty. He has re-enlisted for four more years and will return to McClellan AFB near Sacremento, California, when his leave is over.
• Missouri Beef Packers, headquartered in Amarillo, Texas, has announced their expansion to Idaho in 1972. MBP was incorporated in Rock Port, Missouri, in 1964 and operates beef processing plants in Rock Port, Holton, Kansas, Friona, Texas, and Plainview, Texas.

• The Rock Port Elementary Room Mothers Association has worked hard raising the necessary funds to purchase many items for the elementary classrooms. They have contributed $2,500 to the elementary locker fund. They gave $50 to each teacher for Christmas, purchased a compact refrigerator for the school nurse for the storage of medication, and also purchased laminating film for the school’s laminator.
• The Peer Counselors will be holding a chili supper February 28th during the West Nodaway basketball game. The profits will go to benefit Chad Rogers and his family.
