• Today in the Linwood Hotel on Main Street, next to the Tarkio Theatre, the new Linwood Cafe will open for business with Mrs. Odie Lane as operator. The cafe boasts some recently installed good restaurant equipment, including a long counter and stools.
• “There can be no permanent peace until a new order of things emerges in the Far East to take the place of the pre-war order of things,” Hubert S. Liang, news correspondent and lecturer, pointed out in his address here last Friday night. Mr. Liang gave a delightful and clear presentation of his views on the Eastern Situation at the first of the series of four forums comprising the Institute of International Understanding sponsored by the Rotary.
• The Reverend W. Donald McClure will speak at the Union Lenten service in the United Presbyterian Church March 9. Rev. McClure is a pioneer missionary of the United Presbyterian Church to the South Sudanese in Africa. For 12 years, he has lived among the people in the interior of the continent and comes unusually well-informed.

• A plane crash near Oregon, Missouri, last Thursday was fatal to Charles L. Warnstaff, 52, of Hamburg, Iowa, his son, Kirk, 17, and William S. Arnold, 18, whom he was flying home from Lexington, Missouri, where the boys attended Wentworth Military Academy. Warnstaff, an ex-Navy pilot and graduate of Tarkio College, was formerly of Fairfax and was owner of the Hamburg Oil Company, Tarkio Gas Service, and Sinclair Agent at the time of his death.
• Harold Ensley, “The Sportsman’s Friend” as he is well-known to television audiences, will be in Tarkio to address the annual athletic banquet March 21, at Eppley Lounge.
• Contractors have about completed their work on the Tarkio First Baptist Church. All of the work required for full completion was not included in the low bid price of $253,540. People have donated money, labor, dishes, etc. toward completion of the project.
• Mrs. Pearl Harbison was appointed as City Assessor by Mayor Lloyd Hills at the regular meeting of the City Council.

• The City will ask voters for a 1/2¢ sales tax for a new fire truck. The current trucks are 31- and 20-years-old and a new truck would help keep the present insurance rating, not to mention be more reliable and cost efficient.
• Back by popular demand is Chamber After Hours. Beverages, finger food, and door prizes will be provided courtesy of Sprint at the meeting.
• An area-wide rally will be held at Heartland Rec in Tarkio Sunday, March 9. The featured speaker will be Dave Szott of the Kansas City Chiefs.
• Mary Vance of Tarkio is the new owner of Tarkio’s newest eating establishment. The Tumble Inn Again opened Wednesday, March 5, at 320 Main Street and features a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with home-cooked meals.
