The Tarkio R-I Board of Education meeting was called to order by President Garrett Wood at 7:01 p.m. February 16, 2022, at Tarkio High School. Board members in attendance were Jamie Barnett, Sam Hannah and Heather Olson. Chris Yates joined the meeting at 7:03 p.m. Others in attendance were board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Tarkio R-I Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood, Tarkio High School Principal Nick Kemerling, and Tarkio R-I teachers and staff Erica Taylor, Dara Whipple, and Dallas Prather.

The consent agenda and district obligations were approved.

The board approved Ms. Whipple for the overnight trip for State FCCLA.

Ms. Taylor shared a CTA report with all of the great things happening in the school.

Nikki Parshall reported that there are 24 new members and 109 total members at the Tarkio Activity Center (TAC). The TAC has been busy with wrestling and basketball. The boosters are holding the elementary basketball tournament February 26 and 27. Dance and gymnastics are busy.

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary had 94% attendance for January. Each classroom held a Valentine’s Day Party on Valentine’s Day. Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held February 17, 2022. The third grade parachute routine was held on February 8, 2022. Elementary teachers are studying and implementing new strategies on ways to engage the students.

As Special Education Director, Kari Taylor reported that the special education department continues to work on referrals and evaluations.

High School Principal Kemerling reported that the high school had 95.09% attendance for January. Junior high wrestling has started. High school wrestlers Aaron Schlueter and Bo Graves both made it State Wrestling in Columbia on February 16 and 17. Both high school basketball teams will compete in districts next week. Young teachers in the high school are going to have the opportunity to go and visit veteran teachers in area schools and observe their teaching strategies. County Band Day was held in Rock Port on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

Superintendent Livengood gave a financial report. Mrs. Livengood has created a CSIP Google folder and has started filling it with their evidence so if they are required to submit it for MSIP 6, it will be ready. Nancy Greeley is coming to present MSIP 6 to Tarkio staff on March 14, 2022. Mrs. Livengood also invited all board members to attend this presentation. Mrs. Livengood shared a list of certified staff with the board.

Jamie Barnett moved and Heather Olson seconded to approve the second reading of the calendar for 2022-2023. The motion carried 5-0.

CTS has completed the asbestos report so when the district moves forward with a building project it is in compliance. Mrs. Livengood shared tentative numbers for Fund 4 over the next couple of years and ways to build up Fund 4 to pay down the TAC and put it towards a building project.

The new LED lights have been installed in the fitness center. Bill also replaced several lights in the gym and score clock.

The new lights should be installed soon in the TAC parking lot.

Chris Yates moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the resignation of Diana Parra. The motion carried 5-0.

Chris Yates moved and Sam Hannah seconded to approve the hiring of Megan Rainy for special education teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The motion passed 5-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to approve the hiring of Beth Wennihan as middle school math teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The motion passed 5-0.

The board voted to approve the budget.

The board voted to approve Melody Barnett as the graduation speaker.

The board voted to approve the baseball field contract with the City of Tarkio as presented.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo§. Record and Vote at 8:30 p.m. The meeting returned to regular session at 9:15 p.m.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to extend Kari Taylor’s principal contract through the 2023-2024 school year. The motion carried 5-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to extend Nick Kemerling’s principal contract through the 2022-2023 school year. The motion carried 5-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Chris Yates seconded to extend Carrie Livengood’s superintendent contract through the 2022-2023 school year. The motion carried 5-0.
