Jimmie J. DeLong, 81, Rock Port, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at his home.

Jimmie Joe DeLong was born on December 9, 1940, in Percival, Iowa, the son of Joe and Mabel (Mooney) DeLong. He was one of 12 children born to Joe and Mabel. Jimmie attended school in Thurman, Iowa. He joined the United States Navy in 1959 and was a Radio Man on the U.S.S. Rainier. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

Jimmie had two children, Scott and Sandra, with his first wife. They both preceded him in death. In 1981, he married Barbara (Osborn) Wilson. They relocated to Shirley, Arkansas, in 1989 where Jimmie worked at Fairfield Bay Condo Association. Due to an accident in 1995, Jimmie was forced to retire and he became the caretaker for his four step-grandchildren, Jeff Dishong, Kristina, Jeremy and Micheal Ohl.

He lived and worked in the Sidney, Iowa, area most of his life as a truck driver, operator of a gas station, for the City of Sidney and Stanley Construction in Shenandoah, Iowa. In 2003, he relocated to Rock Port with his wife and four step-children. Jimmie enjoyed golfing, car racing, working on cars and traveling. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Barbara DeLong of Rock Port; step-children, Rick Wilson (Julie) of Rock Port, Rod Wilson (Peg) of Hamburg, Iowa, Robert “Buzz” Wilson (Lynette) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Roxann Dishong of Amarillo, Texas; grandson, Joel DeLong of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 step-grandchildren and 25 step-great grandchildren; siblings, Henry DeLong of Shenandoah, Steve DeLong of Red Oak, Iowa, Mary Lou Honea of Mound City, Missouri, Norma Bode of Ozark, Missouri, and Tony DeLong and Paul DeLong, both of Springfield, Missouri; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mabel DeLong; two children, Scott and Sandra DeLong; and sisters, Anna, Ilene, Geraldine, Ruby, and Carolyn.

A potluck gathering in memory of Jimmie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at The Center in Hamburg. Memorials may be given to the Linden Christian Church, Rock Port.
