March 28, 1947
• Don Friday, who had operated a shoe repair shop in one of the West buildings the past several years, has sold his business to Nathan M. Ginter of King City, Missouri, and gives possession this week. Mr. Ginter is an ex-serviceman and learned his trade largely while in the service.
• Chris Simon late last week had a handsome neon sign placed on the Robert Underwood building on South Main Street to advertise the Simon fountain, which is being placed in the building.
• That odd-looking piece of new equipment which graces the lobby of the Citizens Bank is called a deodorizer, and is for the purpose of cleansing the atmosphere. It is a violet ray mechanism which gives off powerful rays that tend to cleanse the air and does away with impurities.
March 23, 1972
• Blue Jay Corner – Basketball Has Its Breaks by Joni Cooper: “On March 5, the Rock Port faculty and the Maitland faculty played a very exciting game of basketball. Mr. Shineman really got the breaks that afternoon. He was playing defensive position and while he tried to stop the ball with his right hand the ball caught his thumb, which dislocated, chipped a piece off the bone, stretched a few ligaments, and last but not least ripped the skin open, requiring eight stitches.”
• The U.S. Mail suffered another delay to a second accident in three weeks at the Tarkio wye. The latest mishap occurred when a tractor-trailer loaded with mail entered the intersection on 59 and attempted a right turn onto 136 at an excessive rate of speed and turned over onto its side, slid 52 feet up the highway, and struck a westbound car on 136. No one was injured.
• A new idea in sports has come to Rock Port. It is a girls’ track team. The girls are eager to begin their training under Miss Janet Deck. All events that are present for boys’ track will be included for the girls, with the addition of a softball throw. Plans for meets are indefinite at present, but hopes are high for participation in a meet at Tarkio and at Maryville’s Bearcat Relays.
• A Stephens College student from Rock Port, Miss Frances Cox, sang with the Campus Sing, a volunteer Stephens singing group, in a White House worship service last Sunday, March 19. The singers were able to meet President Nixon and Mrs. Nixon and have a photo taken with them.

• The Rock Port High School chapter of National Honor Society held the formal induction of new members Thursday, March 13. Nine members were tapped prior to the induction. They are Zach Allee, Wyatt Amthor, Peter Batschelet, Rebel Herron, Megan Herron, Brooke Ireland, Ryan Meyerkorth, Angela Moran, and Amber Shaw.
• The Early Childhood Center recently experienced a unit of “Under the Big Top” which emphasized a typical circus atmosphere. The children were visited by Fairfax R-3 mascot Boss the Bulldog and a real clown.
• During the Rock Port Board of Aldermen meeting March 11, Pat Whitham, as a previous operator of the Rock Port Laundromat, gave accounts of several break-ins and vandalism. Don Freeman is currently the manager.
