After eight weeks off for illness and surgeries, Pitch Club was able to get back together Tuesday, April 1, at Pam Cooper’s home. It was an interesting day to say the least. We welcomed Vickie and Sharon Smith as the newest members of the group.  Memories were tugged on as we reviewed rules and procedures and made scoresheets to use for the day. Susan Braams and Georgia Gilley were the past organizers for card days and were greatly missed at these first card games without either of them! We did have a good laugh as we talked about aging and memories!

Those present this week were Norma Bradfield, Martha Shaffer, Janell McQuinn, Merylan Lowrey, Deb Johnson, Vickie and Sharon Smith, and Pam Cooper.

With tight schedules we were only able to get in four rounds of game play. High score was shared by Sharon and Vickie and low score was Merylan’s.

Desserts were served earlier than usual to make sure everyone got some pie before leaving. And just like kiddos, some of us got half of the banana cream and half of the coconut cream pie slices. My favorite was definitely the coconut cream, but the banana was delicious, too!  Thanks, Pam, for the wonderful desserts!

One topic of discussion for the day was adoption of dogs and/or cats and how hard it is to watch them being mistreated. We all are animal lovers and felt compassion for those still left in the animal shelters. We hope if you are thinking about getting a pet, be sure you really want it before you adopt, as it’s harder on them to return to shelters after they think they have a new forever home.  Be sure you have plans for a caretaker should life take a sudden turn. Pets give us unconditional love and Pam’s well-mannered adopted pup gave us loads of kisses when she got the chance. She enjoyed all the attention with a smile on her face!

The other concern all members had was safety in our homes.  Especially for those who live alone. Be sure to check in on any of these ladies if you get a minute just to say, “Hi, how are you doing?” After storms, rumors of thefts, and shady activity in our neighborhoods,  we can always use a friendly face of encouragement.  Norma shared some good news about her grandson possibly coming back stateside soon.

With all the activities coming up in the next couple of weeks, we will be postponing our next game day to May 10. So until then, adios amigos!
