The speaker at the April 19, 2022, Tarkio Rotary Club was Rich Wright, Head Football Coach at Northwest Missouri State University. Coach Wright presented an update on the Bearcat program. Among the many subjects he addressed included the state of the team following spring practice. Having graduated several starters on offense and defense, Coach Wright described the process of integrating new players into the lineup and recruiting new players to develop depth at each position. He is currently recruiting Division I running backs and receivers for the offense and linemen and linebackers for the defense from the transfer portal. He emphasized that at Northwest, “We don’t rebuild, we reload,” which consistently makes Northwest one of the best Division II schools in the nation. The Cats have won a total of six NCAA DII National Championships which is more than any school in the nation. They have also won 31 MIAA Conference championships over the years, more than any other school in the conference.
