• A maximum temperature of 88.2 degrees at 3:32 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, provided quite a change from the spring coolness of the week’s minimum temperature of 30.4 degrees at 2:30 a.m. May 9.
• The two acre tract and house located two miles east of Tarkio on Highway 4, the Agnews Mowery estate, was sold this week to Mrs. Taylor of Fairfax. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Lindsay last week purchased from the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Lindsay the Harry Ewing residence property at 302 South 11th Street. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Goble occupy the house.
• Bill Devaney, Tarkio College senior, has accepted an assistantship in the biological science department of Indiana University in Bloomington.

• Bil Pfuderer, Broadway showman, has signed for the summer company with the Mule Barn Theatre. Pfuderer appeared in the New York companies of “Flower Drum Song,” “Camelot,” and “The Fantasticks;” and the national tours of “Man of La Mancha,” “Contrasts in Shakespeare,” and “Romance of the Mask.” He also appeared in “Armstrong Circle Theatre” and “Studio One,” both television productions, and in three European-made films, “Judgement at Nuremberg,” “One, Two, Three,” and “Town Without Pity.”
• Mr. M.O. Looney, president of Missouri Western College, St. Joseph, will deliver the commencement address for 63 graduates of the Tarkio High School senior class Friday night. The group of five ranking highest in scholarship are Becky Gorman, Laurie Harrington, John McIntosh, Judy Myers, and Russell Shinpoch.
• Brian McKenzie of Tarkio Cub Scout Pack 88 won first place in the Pinewood Derby held at the Otoe District Scout-O-Rama last Saturday in Maryville. This is the second year in succession that Brian has won this award. Twelve packs and troops totaling 260 Scouts participated and over 1,000 people attended the affair.

• Thirty-four seniors at Tarkio High School will receive diplomas in a graduation ceremony Sunday, May 18. Class colors are burgundy and silver. Class flower is burgundy rose with silver tip. Class motto is “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters to what lies within us.”
• Brock Nuckolls and Kristy Levings were not only named Mr. and Miss THS, but also received the Outstanding Senior Athlete awards.
• Norm Walker was honored for 17 years of teaching at Tarkio R-I. A retirement reception was held in Norm’s honor on Thursday, May 8, following the high school concert.
• The Tarkio Post Office and Tarkio Academy collected 2,000 pounds of non-perishable items for the food pantry during the Stamp Out Hunger Drive.
• The Tarkio Elementary Sixth Grade students launched their rockets Thursday, May 8. The launch concluded the students’ year-long project.
• Last year, Becky Schomburg was named Booster of the Year and received an award, but there was a mistake. During the ceremony, she was heard saying, “I’d rather have a bunny.” So this year, not only did she receive a corrected plaque, but also a real, live bunny with a pen and food.
