• The body of Mont B. Hall of Tarkio, who drowned in the Tarkio River when his tractor went off a bridge, was found Thursday of last week by Raymond Haun three miles south of Fairfax. Haun first saw the body as he crossed a bridge about one-half mile west of Fairfax around 8:30 a.m. and hurried to Fairfax to raise the alarm. With others, they went to the Seymour bridge about three miles south of Fairfax to watch for the body where about 9:30 a.m. they were able to take the body from the river.
• Fire last Thursday night destroyed a brooder house, garage, and granary at the Charles Broermann farm located eight miles north and one and three-fourths mile west of Tarkio. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vette, who moved to the farm only recently, were attending services at St. John’s Lutheran Church when the fire started. Besides the buildings themselves, $200 in contents were lost, including a number of tools, as well as 200 chickens that had been purchased that day.
• Dr. G. R. Wempe purchased from Tom McCall the building known as the old Buster Hotel and three lots adjoined on Broad Street between Third and Fourth streets. At a later date, Dr. Wempe expects to tear down the old building and a new office building will be erected.
• Harry D. Cunningham has purchased a 160-acre farm east of Tarkio from J. F. Chestnut.
• The Rev. Samuel K. Mall, native pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Sialkot, India, will preach in the local United Presbyterian Church at the Sunday morning worship service. He has served as a minister in the India church for the past 21 years.
• Quite an improvement for the Tarkio Theatre. Upholstered seats have been placed over the entire house. The improvement was made at a cost of $3,000 and owner and manager Virgil Harbison said the seats had been ordered for a long time. Before the 225 new seats arrived, only the rear half of the theatre boasted upholstered seats.

• First National Bank Teller Tells column: “We have never ceased to ponder the fact that each person of whatever station they may have occupied in life leaves some impact on the world in which he lived … A hobby of Charlie Wright is to plant seeds of trees. Many shade trees in Tarkio of the future will be the result of his planting acorns, walnuts, and other seeds all over town.”
• Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal F. C. Kling demonstrated the speed gun, in use in this zone by the patrol. Tarkio has had one speed gun since January and speeding motorists have learned their actual speed is captured on the device and held until it is released.
• John R. Shinpoch, Ed. D., has been named Chairman of the Education Division at Tarkio College by Dr. Eldon E. Breazier, president.

• Jim Lysaght performed at Heartland Recreation Center May 29. Jim is known for his magical, comedy-filled performances and performed with his “Wonder Dog.”
• The Morning Sun Friendship Club enjoyed an evening out at the Rock Port Diner in Rock Port, Missouri, May 20. After a homestyle meal that fully enticed the senses, Mary Ann and Herb Beggs spoke about their recent trip to North Dakota working with the Red Cross Flood Disaster Program.
