• At the B. P. Hunter Stores in Fairfax: Hills Bros. lb. glass jar of coffee, 43¢; Proctor & Gamble’s new Wonder Washer package of Tide, 31¢; Valu Pasteurized Milk per quart, 13¢; Hy-Klas quart of ice cream, 35¢; ready-to-eat picnic hams (6 to 8 lbs.) per lb., 49¢; and hamburger per lb., 39¢.
• Mrs. William M. Sly of Fairfax and Mrs. Clarence Corbin of Tarkio leave Saturday for Cleveland, Ohio, where they will attend the national convention of the American Red Cross as delegates from the Atchison County Red Cross chapter.
• Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Dills celebrated their June 2nd golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner held June 1. Mr. and Mrs. Dills were married in 1897 at the home of her father, the late E. H. White of near Fairfax. Mr. Dills has lived in Missouri since 1882 and Mrs. Dills was born and has spent all her life in or near Fairfax.
• At the first meeting of the newly-elected board of directors of the Fairfax Community Hospital, Incorporated Monday night, the board elected S. J. Peterson as president and F. C. Whitford as secretary-treasurer. Several building sites are to soon be inspected and considered by the board.

• Friday night, Fairfax’s softball team downed Tarkio 10-5 in the second game of a scheduled double-header to halt the Merchants’ 19 game winning streak. The last team to have beaten the Merchants was a St. Joseph team in their first game of the season. Fairfax lost the first game of the double-header 9-11.
• The well-tended and beautifully landscaped lawn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Seymour was selected for “Yard of the Month” honors in June by the Fairfax Garden Club, sponsors of the project.
• Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Hendricks and Ronnie left Friday for Philadelphia to attend the national convention of Baptist churches.

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Thought for the day…you know you are getting older when your little black book contains only names ending in M.D.”
• The elementary students participated in a Safety Day sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The students traveled from station to station to learn how to be safe with the help of local companies and individuals. Stations included: Bike Safety, Poison Look-Alikes, Farm Safety, Outdoor Safety, and Fire Safety. The Kiwanians also had several clowns on hand, popped popcorn, served Kool-Aid, filled balloons, and handed out candy. After lunch, the students attended an assembly where Miss Wheelchair U.S.A. Penny Lorenz-Bailey spoke about her car accident and the need to wear seat belts.
• The Fairfax FFA Banquet was held in the school cafeteria with 66 people in attendance. Some of the awards presented included: Greenhand Degree – Jack Fries, David Gomel, Brett Johnson, Shawn Johnson, and Joe Rhoades; Star Greenhand – Jack Fries; Chapter FFA Degree – Katrina Ball, Amanda Wheeler, Kirk Hawkins, Curtis Vance, Craig Vance, Brooks Bolinger, Jason Kemerling, and Dylan Sly; and Star Chapter Farmer – Katrina Ball.
