June 13, 1947

• Clyde Rinehart is converting the second story of his building at the extreme west end of Main Street in Fairfax into a roller skating rink and hopes to be able to announce an opening date within two weeks.

• Material is being gathered for a book to be printed by The Forum probably late this year giving local history of World War II. The Forum has half-tone cuts of some 400 service men already, but all is wanted.

• Had you noticed that Fairfax’s street lights are considerably brighter than they have been for several months? While repairing some trouble caused by the storm, Virgil Hulett discovered a defective wire. When it was replaced the lights were brighter.

• Cadet Everett Lee True, who is attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, arrived home last week for a 27-day furlough after a six hour trip by plane. The plane only stopped once to refuel.

June 15, 1972

• Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Bowness of London, England, spent the weekend with Mrs. John Bowness and other relatives in the area. Mr. Bowness is a cousin to Henry and James and the late John Bowness and is making his first visit to America.

• At Kerr’s Super Market in Fairfax: Swift’ning, 3-lb. can, 59¢; Shurfine Pork and Beans, two 15 1/2 oz. cans for 29¢; six 16-oz. bottle carton of Pepsi 89¢ plus deposit; and Banquet cream pies, four pies for only $1.

• Miss Cindy Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davis, left Tuesday for several weeks in Europe where she will be a summer ambassador to France. She will live with a French family during her stay.   

June 12, 1997

• Over the Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “The Fairfax Country Store serves great sandwiches and now they have chicken, to go or sit and eat there. The pizzas are good too! Hungry? Try it some time.” “Thought for the day . . . ‘marriages are made in Heaven, so are thunder and lightning.’”

• New bleachers have been purchased for the north city ball park by Community Betterment of Fairfax, the Wolverine 4-H Club, and the Fairfax Optimist Club at a cost of over $1,600. One section is to the south of the announcer’s box and the other is to the east of the box between the box and dugout.
