Herbert Gary Gebhards, R.Ph., the son of Herbert John and Betty Jayne (Amthor) Gebhards, was born on May 15, 1949, in Hamburg, Iowa. Gary attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating Salutatorian of his class in 1967. He attended Pharmacy School and was an active member of Theta Xi fraternity at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, graduating in 1972.

On June 16, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Jacque Gayle Reid and they became the parents of three children, Tad, Tyler, and Tawni. This June they would have celebrated 50 years together.

In 1974, Gary and Jacque Gayle opened Town and Country Drug on Main Street in Rock Port. In 1998, Gary sold the store and retired to spend more time with family and be able to travel the country. After retiring, he worked part-time as a relief pharmacist in the surrounding area.

Gary enjoyed growing up on his family farm and coming to town on Saturday nights. He had a passion for music, movies, nature, and sports. He was an avid sports fan and even after attending UNL, Gary always stayed loyal to his Missouri Tigers. He was also a big Atlanta Braves fan and thoroughly enjoyed seeing his team win the World Series this past year. In his younger years Gary enjoyed playing pool in the Central Cafe, coaching the Legion baseball team, playing slow pitch softball, bowling league and poker nights with his buddies. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing all sports and later loved attending his family’s sporting activities. You could also find Gary cruising around the countryside listening to his music with the volume up and windows down. Gary’s family meant everything to him and he loved them all dearly. He was so proud of each and every one of his family members throughout his lifetime.

Gary was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, where he formerly served on the Church Council. He served on numerous community boards and organizations including the Rock Port Country Club and Rock Port Board of Public Works. Gary passed away in Rock Port on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, with family by his side, at the age of 73.

Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by mother and father-in-law, Milton and LaVona Reid; and brother-in-law, Randy Reid. Survivors include wife, Jacque Gayle, Rock Port; children, Tad (Michelle) Gebhards, Rock Port, Tyler (Sarah) Gebhards, Spring Hill, Kansas, and Tawni (Demian) Ellis, Rock Port; grandchildren, Carter and Karlie Gebhards, Grant and Will Gebhards, and Logan, Reid, and Ali Ellis; sister, Diane (Tom) Boatman, Rock Port; nieces and nephew, Marcy, Cary, and Randy; sister-in-law, Cathy Reid; and numerous cousins and friends.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 6, 2022, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, conducted by Pastor Devon Sons. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port.
