• A couple who have made their home in Rock Port for 55 years and had been married five years when they came here observed their 60th wedding anniversary last Saturday, June 8. They are Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Nixon. Mr. Nixon was married to Miss Maude Derry on June 8, 1887, at Falls City, Nebraska.
• Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harmes have had word from their son, Stewart, who is with the army in Japan, that he has been transferred to a military police school for four weeks’ training and will then be assigned to an M.P. squad. He is stationed in Southern Japan.
• Rock Port representatives to the annual Boys’ State in Fulton, Missouri, went to the convention city last Saturday. They are Harold Vernon and E.R. Dalrymple.
• At a special meeting of the board of directors a few days ago, G. D. Morrison was elected superintendent of the Rock Port schools for the year 1947-48. He succeeds Raymond Houston, who goes to Chillicothe after seven years at Rock Port.

• Bartholomew Drug Company has hired two new pharmacists who began work full time this week. Gary Gebhards, 23, is well-known to residents of this area as he has worked at the Drug Store the last four summers, was a Rock Port R-II graduate, and his parents are Rock Port residents. Darrell Seifort, Lincoln, Nebraska, is the other new pharmacist. He and his family are living in the Baumiester rental property at 800 Summit.
• Ralph Phelps, Rock Port, became manager of the Watts Cleaners as of April 1. Leasing the cleaners from the owner, Virgil Watts, Phelps plans to continue the same services with no personnel changes being made.
• Life gets stranger and stranger, so do the accidents. The wrecks occurred June 6 one mile west of Tarkio when a car was southbound on a country road and skidded into a dirt embankment at the intersection. A few seconds later, a second car took a nose dive into the same dirt bank, the two vehicles ending up side by side. Even more ironic, Larry Ranthum, the only one injured, was a passenger in the second car, but is owner of the first car.
• Miss Lois Noellsch has been selected by Cornell University to carry out nutritional research this summer in Bogata, Columbia, in South America.
• Rock Port Telephone Company began a new phase of service to the public this week with the first of several installations for mobile phone units for its customers. A range of the units of up to 25 miles has been given, but they have been tested as far away as Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Maryville and Mound City, Missouri, and work fine.

• The ninth annual Citizens Bank & Trust Fashion Show and Salad Luncheon was held May 28. Approximately 154 women attended. Kelly Chard of Red Star Catering served a delightful wedding luncheon and Gertrude Mulvania emceed the show.
• Brett Chamberlain, Shawn Shineman, Gera Hakenewerth, Brenda Thompson, and Melinda Meinecke were treated to a trip to Worlds of Fun. Brett, Shawn, Gera, and Brenda were selected to go because they had top Science Fair projects and Melinda got to go because she didn’t have one detention mark the whole fifth grade year and scored highest on the MMAT test.
• New businesses and new owners are springing up all over town. Jason Goldberg is the new owner of the NAPA Auto Parts store in Rock Port. Kelly and Tim Chard are the new owners and operators of Red Star Deli & Spirits. Lisa Wilczek will be working out of her home doing personalized gift baskets and sign and window painting. Props Plus +, located at 206 Hwy. 136 East, is another new site. David Squires and Rita Squires will run the sales department and Mike Vance will take care of the mechanics.
