The Atchison County Health Department has seen an uptick in Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the county this month. Although not as high as January and February’s case numbers, 60 cases of COVID-19 were reported in June.

Atchison County’s COVID-19 Community Level is listed as medium as of June 30, 2022, according to https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/

The Atchison County Health Department reports that as of June 30, 2022, there have been 1,522 total cases of COVID-19 in Atchison County. Cases reported in 2022 by the month are: January, 328; February, 95; March, 12; April, 7; May, 16; and June, 60. A total of 24 deaths have been reported.

The Tarkio Sewershed Project samples changed from previous months of presumed Omicron BA.2 variant at 100% to show presumed Omicron BA.2 variant at 65% and presumed Omicron BA.4/BA.5 variants at 35% with the June 14, 2022, sampling date. COVID TESTING:

Atchison County Health Department offers COVID testing Monday through Thursday. Testing is done car-side. Call 660-736-4121 for an appointment.

COVID VACCINATIONS:

Children age 6 months and up are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Missouri.

• The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is now authorized to be given to children ages 6 months to 4 years in three doses, with a three-week interval between the first two doses, followed by a third dose at least 8 weeks after the second dose.

• The Moderna vaccine is now authorized to be given to children 6 months to 5 years in two doses with 28 days between the two doses.

Atchison County Health Department has both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines available for these age groups. Appointments available Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Previously, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was authorized for use in individuals ages 5 and older, and the Moderna vaccine was authorized for those 18 and older. As of July 1, 2022, the Moderna vaccine is authorized for those ages 6-17 and is administered as a primary series of two doses, one month apart. Atchison County Health Department will be carrying this presentation soon.

The Atchison County Health Department has given a total of 3,962 COVID vaccine doses given so far. A total of 29 COVID vaccine doses were given in June (including two pediatric Pfizer).
