Tarkio/Fairfax/Westboro Food Pantry

The Tarkio/Fairfax/Westboro, Missouri, Food Pantry Board met Tuesday, July 12, 2022, with 14 members present. Churches represented were: Fairfax – Christian, Methodist and Presbyterian; Tarkio – Baptist, Church of God, Christian, and Presbyterian; and Westboro – Methodist and St. John’s. Sam O’Riley represented  Community Services. Father Duc Nyguyen opened the meeting with prayer and President Anne Barnett presided.

In May, 38 families representing 64 individuals were served. In June, 43 families representing 86 individuals were assisted. Sam O’Riley reported that 66 boxes for the Summer of Love Kids’ Meals program were assembled and distributed. Boxes will be given out in July at the Community Services office. The program has been well received. Plans are to continue that program again next summer. Board members are grateful to the churches for providing kid-friendly food items as well as cash for the program.

Items that are currently needed at the food pantry are jelly in plastic bottles, sugar and flour. Monetary donations are always appreciated as the money allows the shelves to be stocked with the items that are low. Those interested in donating to the food pantry are reminded that donations intended for the local food pantry need to be given directly to the pantry. Donations given to Second Harvest do not come back to the local pantry.

The pantry will be open the third and fourth Tuesdays and Thursdays of July and August from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It will also be open the third Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. In July, St. John’s Lutheran Church will open the food pantry. The Tarkio Presbyterian Church will open the food pantry in August.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, September 13, at 9:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio. For after hours donations, call 816-261-2672.
