A local teen received moderate injuries in a one-vehicle crash in Atchison County July 15, 2022. The wreck occurred at 10:46 p.m. three miles outside of Fairfax, Missouri, when a 2004 Toyota Camry, driven by Alyssa J. Applen, 19, of Rock Port, Missouri, began to skid. The vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway and became airborne. The front of the Toyota struck the ground, then the rear struck the ground, and then the vehicle overturned, coming to rest on its top facing southwest off the east side of the roadway.

Applen, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by an Atchison-Holt ambulance to Community Hospital-Fairfax. The Toyota Camry was totaled and towed from the scene by Benefiel’s Towing of Hamburg, Iowa. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper C.J. Blue, who was assisted by Trooper V.P. Wiley, Trooper J.D. Schmedding, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, Tarkio Police Department, Fairfax Rural Fire Department, and Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
