
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri, for Jay Dee Clinkingbeard. Rev. Franz J. Brandenburg and Chris Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the service. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at High Prairie Cemetery, Elmo, Missouri. Military rites will be under the auspices of the United States Navy. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Jay, the son of Carl and Veda (Macrander) Clinkingbeard, was born January 23, 1938, in Westboro, Missouri. Jay attended Westboro High School, graduating in 1955. Following graduation from high school, Jay joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Lewis, a destroyer escort ship and two destroyers. He remained in touch with shipmates through the USS Lewis Reunions. In 1966, he attended Moody Bible Institute and Aviation Tech, Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 1970.
On February 23, 1957, Jay was united in marriage to Beverly Edwards at Chamberlain Wedding Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri. They became parents of two children, Jeffrey Jay and Jolinda.
For many years, Jay and Beverly were missionaries serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT) and Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT). The mission of WBT and LBT is translation and literacy of the Word of God into the language spoken by people groups throughout the world. The aim is that everyone should have an opportunity to hear of the salvation and love the Lord Jesus Christ offers to all. They lived in Mexico, Nepal, and Liberia, West Africa. Jay facilitated this mission as a pilot and mechanic of short takeoff and landing aircraft. They returned to the United States and lived in Bloomington, Indiana, before returning home to Atchison County. Jay worked as a building superintendent and carpenter.
Jay was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, and Sons of the American Revolution. He was also was a member of Promise Keeper’s Bible Study and served as a board member of IAMO Communications. He enjoyed flying and fishing. Jay passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 84.
Besides his parents, Jay was preceded in death by siblings, Wayne and Robert Vernon Clinkingbeard. Survivors include wife, Beverly Clinkingbeard, Westboro; children, Jeffrey (Osiris) Clinkingbeard, Moore, South Carolina, and Jolinda Sears, Noblesville, Indiana; grandchildren, Dylan Sears, Jeffrey Dean, Joshua Edwards, and Mia Annabella Clinkingbeard; brother, Lonnie (Judy) Clinkingbeard, Tucson, Arizona; and nieces and nephews.
